About Cumin: Cumin is a flowering plant whose seeds are primarily used for cooking is various different cultures around the world. Cumin is mostly cultivated in Mediterranean to Indian region and is used both in grounded form and as a dried seed. Average height of Cuminum cyminum plant is around 40 cms and would go up to maximum 50 cms. It bears flowers which are light pink in colour. Average size of a cumin seed is about 5mm in length.
History of Cumin: Cumin has a very old history and also has got its mention in the Bible. In one of the archaeological sites in Syria some cumin seeds were also excavated which were found to be dated back to second millennium BC. Cumin is known to be originally cultivated in Iran and gradually moved to Greece and Rome in Europe. It was only Spain in Europe which would continue with taste of cumin and they introduced it to American region. Even today after thousands of years the cultivation of cumin is mostly done in the Mediterranean region and prime producers of cumin remain to be: Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajakistan, Turkey, Morocco, Egpyt and India.
Properties of Cumin Oil: Cumin Oil is extracted by means of steam distillation of dried cumin seeds. The major chemical constituents of cumin oil include: cuminic, cymene, dipentene, limonene, phellandrene, and pinene.
